David Mather, baritone

David Thomas Mather is an emerging baritone in the Boston area who thrives when performing in a variety of styles, most notably vocal chamber music, Lieder, and art song. Also an avid early music practitioner and musical theater enthusiast, he experiments with and mixes vocal techniques between genres to create compelling performances that connect to audiences of any background.

As a soloist, David has been featured in performances and masterclasses with early music specialists Joel Frederiksen, Anne Azéma, and Ryan Turner, as well as Broadway icons Laura Bell Bundy, Alice Ripley, Laura Osnes, and Marla Mindelle. He has been pleased to work collaboratively with prolific opera composers like Christopher Theofanidis, Mark Adamo, and Bright Sheng, as well as premiere pieces by GRAMMY award-winner Jennifer Higdon, Niloufar Nourbakhsh, and Jonathan David. In concert he has recently performed BWV 56BWV 61, and Schubert’s Winterriese song cycle.

David made his debut with The Boston Camerata in 2019 in the touring cast of the Play of Daniel, and has since appeared in their production of Dido and Aeneas: An Opera For Distanced Lovers. He has worked with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, Lowell House Opera, the Utah Symphony and the Grand Teton Music Festival Choruses. He sings regularly as a section leader and cantor for several churches in the greater Boston area, as a member of Carduus, and as co-founder of the A Priori duo. He has given concerts for audiences in North America and Europe, performing at venues including the Notre Dame Cathedral, La Madeleine, and Jordan Hall.
